3D SAR Speckle Offset Tracking Potential for Monitoring Landfast Ice Growth and Displacement

This study investigates the growth and displacement of landfast ice along shoreline Mackenzie Delta in Northwest Territories, Canada, by synthetic aperture radar (SAR) speckle offset tracking (SPO). Three-dimensional (3D) offsets were reconstructed from Sentinel-1 ascending descending SAR images acquired on same dates during November 2017–April 2018 October 2018–May 2019 annual cycles. The analysis revealed both horizontal vertical offsets. up to ~8 m are interpreted as displacements caused wind ocean currents. approximately −1 −2 observed ice, which likely due longer penetration ice–water interface with increasing thickness. Numerical thickness model estimates supported conclusion that cumulative negative correspond freshwater ice. Time-series showed significant occurred between January 2017–2018 2018–2019
